Larry Pearson suffered compound fractures in his lower left ankle, his family said. He will have surgery on the ankle at Bristol Regional Medical Center tonight.
Pearson also fractured his right hand and pelvis.
Those are some pretty significant injuries, though not as bad as they could have been. Pearson, who is the son of David Pearson, was knocked unconscious by the impact and regained consciousness by the time he was transported to the hospital.
This race isn’t a NASCAR sanctioned race, it’s a special charity race run by Bristol Motor Speedway. Last year’s was the first. You have to wonder if Bristol will reconsider running this race after the wreck.
